On My Wishlist #5

On My Wishlist is a weekly meme hosted over @Book Chick City. It's a fun way of showing everyone a few little books that have been sitting patiently on your wishlist for a while. As usual I have a load of books on my wishlist just urging me to buy them all but sadly I can't do that. Boo. I would really like to win the lottery some time soon please and first stop on my splurge tour would be amazon! Books. Books. And more books! :) Here's what's on my wishlish this week...

Daughters of Rome - Kate Quinn
A.D. 69. Nero is dead.

The Roman Empire is up for the taking. With bloodshed spilling out of the palace and into the streets of Rome, chaos has become the status quo. The Year of Four Emperors will change everything—especially the lives of two sisters with a very personal stake in the outcome….

Elegant and ambitious, Cornelia embodies the essence of the perfect Roman wife. She lives to one day see her loyal husband as Emperor. Her sister, Marcella, is more withdrawn, content to witness history rather than make it. Even so, Marcella has her share of distinguished suitors, from a cutthroat contender for the throne to a politician’s son who swears that someday he will be Emperor.

But when a bloody coup turns their world upside down, Cornelia and Marcella—along with their cousins, one a collector of husbands and lovers, the other a horse-mad beauty with no interest in romance—must maneuver carefully just to stay alive. As Cornelia tries to pick up the pieces of her shattered dreams, Marcella discovers a hidden talent for influencing the most powerful men in Rome. In the end, though, there can only be one Emperor … and one Empress.

I've seen a few of Kate Quinn's books mentioned on goodreads and they sound pretty good. I love historical fiction and I love ancient history especially Rome so this sounds like something I'd enjoy very much so I will have to get my hands on a copy sometime soon...hopefully...fingers crossed :)

Grave Mercy (His Fair Assassin #1) - Robin LaFevers
Why be the sheep, when you can be the wolf?

Seventeen-year-old Ismae escapes from the brutality of an arranged marriage into the sanctuary of the convent of St. Mortain, where the sisters still serve the gods of old. Here she learns that the god of Death Himself has blessed her with dangerous gifts—and a violent destiny. If she chooses to stay at the convent, she will be trained as an assassin and serve as a handmaiden to Death. To claim her new life, she must destroy the lives of others.

Ismae's most important assignment takes her straight into the high court of Brittany—where she finds herself woefully under prepared—not only for the deadly games of intrigue and treason, but for the impossible choices she must make. For how can she deliver Death’s vengeance upon a target who, against her will, has stolen her heart?

This hasn't been on my wishlist long but I have had enough of not owning a copy. I want to read it, and read it now. It looks so good and everyone is reading it, and not me. Boo.

What's on your wishlist this week?
